A Permanent Exhibition Centre of the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC)

       In what is being projected as the first of its kind in any school in the State, a permanent exhibition centre of the VIKRAM SARABHAI SPACE CENTRE (VSSC) has been opened at the Mahatma High School, Chennithala near here. The centre, named ‘India in Space,’ was inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation G.K. Vasan on Wednesday. Opened as part of the school’s Golden Jubilee celebrations, the centre was set up by VSSC after a request by Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala, an alumnus of the school.
       According to V.P. Balagangadharan, head of VSSC’s Technology Transfer and Documentation Group, the permanent exhibition centre was aimed at spreading awareness on India’s progress in space science among the young generation. The centre would be open to all those interested in knowing more about India in space.
       The Rs.8-lakh centre, housed in a 600 sq.ft. building sponsored by Mr. Chennithala, has models, panels and video shows explaining the Indian space programme.
